- Specific numbers, dates, and named entities anchor key claims
- Sentences are short and self-contained — every paragraph could stand alone if extracted
- A pull-quote or callout summarises the core takeaway in one line
Hitting all seven puts you in the top quartile of citable content.
Common mistakes that tank citability
The 4,000-word listicle. Long-form SEO content that meanders through a topic without ever giving a clean answer. AI engines can't cleanly extract a citable claim from prose like this.
Hedge-and-qualify writing. "It depends on your use case" is the worst thing you can write for AI citation. AI engines cite definitive sources.
